Oslo - The UN Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, is expected to be a front runner for the Nobel Peace Prize when its guardians meet today to pick a winner.
Peace experts say that the secretive five-member committee, which announces its decision on October 12th, may want a high-profile but relatively uncontroversial winner on the 100th anniversary of the prize, first awarded in 1901.
The European Court of Human Rights, the International Committee of the Red Cross, soccer's governing body, FIFA, and China's banned Falun Gong spiritual movement are among 136 nominees for the prestigious award.
