Another Serie A player has tested positive for a banned substance. the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) said in a statement today.
"On Saturday the anti-doping committee of CONI received from the Sports Doctors’ Federation a case of a registered non-negativity that concerns a member of the Italian Football Federation.
"CONI has in turn informed the relevant federation with whom we have proceeded to identify which athlete the code corresponds to," CONI said in the statement
No one at the football federation was immediately available for comment.
The statement did not mention any player or any team involved in the case nor which substance had caused the "non-negative" result. CONI's laboratories handle analyses of samples but the identification of the codes related to the samples is left to the Italian Football Federation.
Italian media has speculated that Juventus's Dutch international midfielder Edgar Davids may have tested "non-negative" after the March 4th match between Juventus and Udinese.
Juventus have refused to comment on the rumours saying they have not received official notice of any test results relating to their players.
On Saturday, a second 'B test' on Lazio's Portuguese defender Fernando Couto was found "non-negative" as it included levels of the banned substance nandrolone.
Couto is likely to face a disciplinary hearing of the Italian Football Federation and could receive a lengthy ban from the game.
