Bonn - The German government has rejected calls to rescind tough anti-terrorist laws, even though the Red Army Faction which prompted their introduction has decided to disband.

Opposition politicians had demanded a review of legislation enacted in the 1970s and 1980s, saying the move by the Baader-Meinhof group should prompt an immediate review. But members of Dr Helmut Kohl's coalition said many of the laws could still play an important role in the fight against organised crime and extremists such as neo-Nazis. "At the moment, everything is staying as it is," said a spokesman for the Justice Minister, Mr EdzardSchmidt Jortzig.
