GARDAÍ IN Sligo have appealed for help in identifying a man whose body was found on Rosses Point beach early on Tuesday morning.

The man was wearing swimming togs and a pile of clothes was found close to the body, but no car keys, mobile phone or ID of any sort was found.

Sgt Gerard Moylan  of Sligo Garda station said a description of the man had been circulated to gardaí and to the PSNI .

Sgt Moylan said there were no suspicious marks on the man’s body and gardaí suspect that the cause of death was drowning. The body was found lying face down on the rocks at the high water mark at about 6.45am on Tuesday by a local man.

The man is described as aged 55 to 60 years, 5ft 10.5in tall, with short greyish hair, of thin build and with distinctive black eyebrows. The clothes found near the body included black shoes, dark navy chino style trousers which had a CA tag, a black belt with silver buckle, a Tommy Hilfiger black sleeveless jumper and a black leather jacket.
