Madrid - Spanish prosecutors appealed yesterday against Judge Baltasar Garzon's recent move to add 50 more cases of torture to his extradition request for Chile's former dictator Gen Augusto Pinochet (83), court sources said. The appeal, made by the chief prosecutor's office of the High Court, said Judge Garzon could not broaden the case against the general as he was not directly implicated in crimes, the sources said.

Judge Garzon, a High Court investigative judge who ordered Gen Pinochet's arrest in London in October and wants to try the former dictator for crimes against humanity, on Friday sent details of dozens more cases of torture and murder to Britain to strengthen the case.
