GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING a serious assault on a man almost three weeks ago have appealed to a woman who witnessed the incident to contact them immediately.
The woman was able to provide information on the attack to a taxi driver who then raised the alarm. However, she has not contacted gardaí and investigating officers are keen to speak to her.
The victim was assaulted on Sunday, June 15th, at 7.30pm on Wood Quay, Dublin 2. He was attacked by two men and suffered serious head injuries. It is understood the victim attended the Gay Pride march in Dublin city centre earlier in the day. However, gardaí are keeping an open mind as to whether the attack was a homophobic incident.
The woman who witnessed the assault asked a passing taxi driver to call gardaí. She was able to pass detailed descriptions of the attackers to the taxi driver and then took the taxi to Ballyfermot.
Gardaí in Pearse St have spoken to the taxi driver involved and are now urging the woman to contact them.
It is understood the investigation is proceeding on a definite line of inquiry but gardaí believe the woman could provide them with information that may solve the crime.
She, and anybody else who may have witnessed the incident, is asked to contact Pearse St gardaí on (01) 6669000.
