Gardaí yesterday appealed to anyone who may have seen 30-year-old Killarney murder victim James Brazier in the hours before his death to come forward.
Mr Brazier, who had lived in the town for over a year, had been socialising in pubs and clubs in Killarney, Co Kerry, on Saturday, gardaí said.
He was removed by ambulance personnel from a house in Pinewood Estate with serious injuries, including stab wounds, shortly after 2.30am on Sunday morning.
He died later at Kerry General Hospital.
Gardaí launched a full murder inquiry following a postmortem examination by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster.
A technical examination of the scene was continuing yesterday.
Mr Brazier, with an address at nearby Deerpark Crescent, was found injured in a bedroom of the house.
A number of children were among those present in the house at the time.
Gardaí were following a number of lines of inquiry yesterday.
The estate, a local authority housing estate, is regarded as quiet and settled. Built in the 1970s, many of the houses are privately owned.
Local town councillor Donal Grady (Ind) said the estate was well regarded and residents were very upset.
