Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the serious sexual assault of a Spanish woman in the Knocklyon area of Dublin early yesterday.

The attack happened at 4 a.m. at Templeroan Avenue after the 23-year-old woman had taken a taxi home from Temple Bar with a man she had met in a pub.

The woman got out of the car near an Esso garage on Knocklyon Road and the man got out nearby and assaulted her at the end of Templeroan Avenue. It is believed he then took a taxi back to the city centre.

Gardai are anxious to trace the taxi driver who drove the couple from the Parliament Street area to Knocklyon and also a driver who may have brought the attacker back to the city. They are also anxious to speak to anyone who may have seen the couple queuing for a taxi. on the night of the attack.

The man is described as between 25 and 30 years old, of slim build with short, tight-cut blonde hair and blue eyes. He is said to be between 6'1" and 6'4" tall and was wearing jeans and a white shirt with a white zipped top. It is believed he was also wearing a silver-hooped earring. He described himself as an English national.
