An application by a Cork man to have his trial on charges relating to the deaths of two young men arising from a road incident in Cork moved to Dublin was rejected by the Supreme Court yesterday.
The court upheld a High Court decision refusing to transfer the trial of Mr David Todd to Dublin.
Mr Todd, of St Michael's Road, Farranree, Cork, had appealed to the Supreme Court for the transfer. He argued his trial before a jury in Cork Circuit Criminal Court on charges of manslaughter, dangerous driving and other ancillary road traffic offences, would be unjust and violate his constitutional right to fair procedures.
The case arises from a traffic incident in Cork on March 17th, 1997 as a result of which two youths - Trevor O'Connell and Stephen Kirby - died.
