Gardai in Limerick are carrying out house-to-house inquiries in an effort to trace the mother of the baby girl found in a plastic bag last Sunday. More than 20 gardai were calling to houses in the Garryowen area where the baby was found.
Insp John Murphy of Henry Street Garda station appealed to the mother to come forward. "We know she must be in some distress and we would appeal to her to contact us." A post-mortem revealed that the baby was full-term, but further tests are being carried out to establish if the baby was stillborn or had lived for a time.
