Kevin Roche was born in Dublin in 1922 and went to the US in 1948. With John Dinkeloo he completed the Gateway Arch in St Louis, Missouri, and the TWA terminal at Kennedy Airport in New York.
In 1968 their Ford Foundation headquarters on East 42nd Street was the first modern building to be laid out around a plant-filled atrium. The New York Times said it was "probably one of the most romantic environments ever devised by corporate man".
Since then, Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates have designed museums, centres for the performing arts and corporate headquarters in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Tokyo, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
