Armed gang robs cash from Belfast post office

Armed robbers in northern Ireland held a couple hostage today before escaping with a substantial amount of cash.

Detectives are investigating the robbery carried out on a post office in north Belfast. At 6.15am two armed and masked men forced their way in to a house in the Spamount Street area and held a man and woman hostage.

Two hours later the woman was told to go to work at the post office on Crumlin Road as normal and to remove cash from the safe. Police say a substantial amount of cash was taken in the raid.

One kidnapper is described as being 5ft 10ins tall, fat, had a local accent and wore a black balaclava, dark tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe down the side and a dark zipped top.

The second man is said to be 6ft tall and of large build. He wore a black knee-length coat and black woollen gloves.
