An Army bomb disposal team have carried out a controlled explosion on a suspect package in central Dublin.

The package was discovered at Duck Lane in the Smithfield market area after five telephone warnings about a number of devices were received by gardaí. A controlled explosion was carried out just after 10 a.m. and the suspect device was later declared a hoax.

The area around the site of the find has now been declared safe. Earlier, the staff and guests at Chief O'Neill's hotel were evacuated as a precaution.

Several other parts of central Dublin, including St Stephen's Green, were checked following the phone warnings.
