Army deafness cases to resume

The High Court will resume the hearing of army deafness cases later this month

The High Court will resume the hearing of army deafness cases later this month. This follows complaints from lawyers for plaintiffs that not enough actions were being resolved under an out-of-court Early Settlement Scheme set up by the Minister for Defence. The situation will be reviewed in late July.

When reviewing the status of the actions yesterday, Mr Justice Johnson was told there were 7,300 actions outstanding out of a total of 15,000. The judge said developments had not been satisfactory and he wanted faster results.
