A Garda spokesman said specialist teams had dismantled three "viable" devices in Fairview park.

A man out walking his dog saw the devices in bushes in the park at about 8am and called gardaí, who notified and the Army's Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team.

A third device, discovered yesterday in Ronanstown, was also brought to Fairview and dismantled. Gardaí said the third device was similiar to the two found today.

The bombs are being linked to gangland criminals in Dublin.

A section of the park along the Malahide Road as far as Edge's Corner was closed to the public until this afternoon.

The remnants of the pipe bombs were handed over to forensic experts at the Garda Technical Bureau for tests.

Independent TD for Dublin North Central, Finian McGrath, said he was "horrified" by the find. "My information is that it is gangland-related," he said. "They were obviously being left there to be collected."

Gardaí are appealing for anybody who saw any unusual activity in the Fairview Park area to contact them at Clontarf Garda Station on 01 6664800.

Meanwhile Army bomb disposal experts also examined a suspect package left in a social welfare office in Ballyfermot.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene after a package with suspicious-looking power was left there this morning. However the package turned out not to contain anything suspicious.
