MILITARY POLICE are investigating a second allegation of sexual assault involving members of the Reserve Defence Forces (RDF) at Finner Camp, Ballyshannon, Co Donegal.
A spokesman for the Defence Forces confirmed yesterday that an internal investigation is “ongoing” into an alleged sexual assault that occurred there a number of months ago.
The spokesman also confirmed that another allegation of sexual assault against a member of the RDF, formerly the FCA, which took place approximately three years ago, had been “dealt with”.
Both allegations are said to involve attacks on young female members of the RDF.
Finner Camp is the largest of the three military barracks in Donegal.
The Military Police are responsible for the prevention and investigation of offences, the enforcement of discipline and the general policing of the Defence Forces. No suspension mechanism exists within the Defence Forces.
The Reserve Defence Forces are part-time and train on a voluntary basis. The RDF consists of the Army Reserve (formerly An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil – FCÁ) and the Naval Service Reserve (formerly An Slua Muirí).
