Two senior Army officers have been promoted to the rank of brigadier-general. The promotions of Col Carl Dodd and Col John Vize were approved yesterday by the Minister for Defence, Mr Smith.
Col Dodd is a native of Mallow, Co Cork. He joined the Defence Forces in 1961 and is currently director of operations at Defence Forces Headquarters. He has extensive overseas experience, including tours in Cyprus, Lebanon and in Central America. He also attended the Advanced Infantry Course at Fort Benning, USA.
Col Vize, originally from Wicklow town, also joined the Defence Forces in 1961. He is currently executive officer of the Curragh Command. He has served in Cyprus, Lebanon and Cambodia and has been commandant of the UN school at the military college.
Both men live with their families in Newbridge, Co Kildare.
