U2 fans disappointed at not securing tickets to the band's summer concert at Slane Castle may yet find what they are looking for on September 1st.
Arrangements for "Slane 2", a week after the original concert on Saturday August 25th, are already under way, The Irish Times has learned.
A draft of the new licensing legislation is in circulation for consultation with the Garda and others bodies and the final version is expected to pass the Dail within weeks.
Lord Mount Charles revealed yesterday he has discussed a second show with Mr Denis Desmond and Mr Eamonn McCann of promoters MCD. He also consulted locals in the Co Meath village.
"It is my understanding the legislation will be processed more rapidly than we thought and a draft has already emanated," said Lord Mount Charles, who was speaking from the US.
"I've been talking specifically about it today with my colleagues in MCD. When the legislation is in place we will be in a position to apply to the local authority, which would make Slane 2 a possibility."
U2 are in Miami, Florida, preparing for their Elevation World Tour which has been selling out rapidly across the US and Europe. Lord Mount Charles will attend the band's opening concert on Saturday.
The Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, pledged last week to fast-track legislation to grant a licence for another concert. The move was in response to overwhelming public demand, after 80,000 tickets for the original date were sold out in 45 minutes.
The new licensing system will replace the need for planning permission for an outdoor music event, which is seen as a slow and restrictive process.
