A 29-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested by gardaí investigating the murder of Offaly publican Matt Farrell.
The man was arrested in Roscrea, Co Tipperary, yesterday evening. He was taken to Tullamore Garda station where he is being held for questioning.
Mr Farrell’s body was discovered by his son Matthew at his premises, the Gaelic Bar on Molesworth Street in Daingean, Co Offaly, on April 1st, 2009.
The 64-year-old publican, who was last seen at his premises at 2.30am, had been tied up and a sum of money was taken from the pub. A postmortem revealed Mr Farrell had died as a result of injuries he sustained to his head.
Mr Farrell’s murder sparked a massive Garda investigation involving 100 officers. While 10 people have been arrested in the course of the investigation no one has yet been charged in relation to Mr Farrell’s death.
