Gardai investigating an arson attack on the home of a Limerick prison officer at the weekend believe it may be connected to last week's High Court hearing in which three prison officers took an action against the State after personal files were made accessible on computer to a number of prisoners, Brian McLaughlin reports. The chairman of the Limerick Prison Officers Association, Mr Alan Kavanagh, said the possibility of a link was being investigated. Nobody was injured when an incendiary device failed to break the front room window at about 5 a.m., but the window frame caught fire. A Limerick prison spokesman yesterday denied the transfer of three prisoners to Cork prison on Saturday was connected to the arson attack. It was "normal procedure". Information on computer concerning three Limerick prison officers, to which prisoners had access on the library's computer, was disclosed to the three men following an agreement with State officials, the High Court in Dublin was told last week. Mr Angus Kirwan, Mr Alan Kavanagh and Mr John A. Ryan had claimed they feared for their safety. Meanwhile it was reported yesterday that up to 16 prison officers at Limerick had taken sick leave because of the computer incident.
