AS Roma were crowned Italian first division champions for the first time in 18 years today after defeating Parma 3-1at the Olympic Stadium.
The victory ensured they could not be caught by Juventus or outgoing champions Lazio.
The game was finally played to a finish after chaotic scenes caused by a pitch invasion which saw fans storm the field and rip kit off Roma playersfor souvenirs.
Goals from Francesco Totti, Vincenzo Montella and Argentinian Gabriel Batistuta ensured victory and despite a consolation from Marco Di Vaio andthe pitch invasion which interrupted play for 12 minutes.
Juventus finish runners-up after a 2-1 victory over Atalanta in Turin. Goals from French forward David Trezeguet and Alessio Tacchinardi wereanswered by Atalanta's Marco Nappi in another match affected by an invasion.
Defending champions Lazio, in with a chance at the start of play, lost 2-1 at Lecce, a result that ensures the southern club avoids relegation.
Two goals fro Gaetano Vasari were enough for Lecce after Hernan Cespo's 26th of the season from the penalty spot had given Lazio the lead.
Napoli and Vicenza are relegated along with Bari while Reggina and Verona will play-off for the last relegation place.
