Assembly members will be paid an annual salary of £29,000 sterling during the shadow period and this will rise when powers are transferred to the Assembly.
In the case of members already serving as an MP or MEP, this will be abated by two-thirds, according to the Northern political development minister, Mr Paul Murphy.
Each member will also be entitled to office costs of £15,000 for the first six months of the shadow period.
Mr Murphy wrote yesterday to the political parties seeking their comments on the draft initial standing orders for the Assembly, which will need to be made by the Secretary of State, Dr Mo Mowlam.
After the declaration of the election results, Dr Mowlam will invite views as to whom she should nominate as initial presiding officer and deputy presiding officer. The presiding officer will be appointed on June 29th and Dr Mowlam will notify the time and the place of the Assembly's first meeting and the initial standing orders.
The initial standing orders will make provision for the election of a First Minister and Deputy First Minister at the Assembly's inaugural meeting.
The Assembly could choose to elect a presiding officer and deputy presiding officer, in place of those nominated by Dr Mowlam. Each election would be on a cross-community basis.
The Assembly will elect a First Minister-designate and a Deputy First Minister-designate. It may also decide to establish a business committee and a standing orders committee.
Any ad-hoc committees will be constituted on a broadly proportional basis.
