Secondary teachers will decide today whether to withdraw from exam work and resume strike action next week in pursuit of their 30 per cent pay claim.
The Association of Secondary Teachers, Ireland (ASTI) yesterday postponed a crucial meeting of its central executive set for this weekend because of the foot-and-mouth crisis.
However, its standing committee still has to decide whether to resume industrial action. Several members are worried that if the union strikes during the crisis, teachers will be heavily criticised by the public.
