Brussels - Belgium is willing to change its asylum policy, a spokeswoman for the Prime Minister said yesterday, as officials said the body of a Nigerian woman who died while being deported will be sent home on Thursday.
Mr Jean-Luc Dehaene told ministers in a special meeting that asylum procedures would be made clearer to help guarantee applicants' rights.
As he was speaking, up to 4,000 demonstrators protested peacefully against asylum detention centres outside a planned centre in Vottem in the east of the country.
