A suicide bomber killed at least 27 people at a funeral for a Pakistani policeman killed earlier today.
Deputy Superintendent Karamat Shah believed the toll could be higher as several people took the bodies of their relatives home to prepare them for burial.
Interior Ministry spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema said at least 50 people were wounded in the attack in Swat, a mountainous region where Pakistani security forces have been battling Islamist militants for months.
The policeman being buried was one of three killed in by a roadside bomb in another part of the troubled northwest.
