TWO WELCOME-HOME ceremonies will be held for Ireland’s London 2012 Olympic athletes in Dublin today.

TWO WELCOME-HOME ceremonies will be held for Ireland’s London 2012 Olympic athletes in Dublin today.

Dublin City Council confirmed that the athletes will be welcomed at a civic reception at the Mansion House at 1pm.

A council spokesman said they were aware of the bad weather forecast for today, but were confident the event would be able to go ahead successfully.

Lord Mayor Naoise Ó Muirí and Minister of State for Tourism Michael Ring will join Team Ireland members on a stage erected at the junction of Dawson Street and Molesworth Street, next to the Mansion House.

The council has said that the athletes will not travel to the event on an open-top bus.

It is expected the athletes will be interviewed on stage by a master of ceremonies, who is expected to be from RTÉ. There will also be “some light entertainment”, the city council said, although it did not confirm details yesterday.

Footage from Ireland’s participation in the Games will be shown on a big screen. Mr Ó Muirí will bring the event to a close at 2pm.

“The council is planning a lively and exciting public event,” a spokesman said.

After the public event ends, the athletes will give media interviews in the Mansion House.

They will then be taken to a another event hosted by Taoiseach Enda Kenny at Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park, beginning at 4pm.
