An Athlone street is to be named after local novelist John Broderick, but only when a suitable location is found, Athlone Urban District Council has decided.
Many of the author's novels were set in the midlands and were critical of small-town attitudes. When they were published in the 1960s and 1970s, some Athlone people resented their content. An Apology for Roses and The Pride of Summer were among his more popular titles.
