Attack on Iraq's national assembly building

Insurgents fired mortar bombs at a venue where members of Iraq's interim national assembly gathered today.

There were no injuries in what was the second attack on the body this week.

One mortar bomb landed inside the fortified Green Zone compound while another landed outside.

Insurgents fired mortars and rockets at the venue minutes before the 100-strong assembly held its first session on Wednesday. At least one civilian was wounded.

Rebels waging a bloody insurgency against the US-backed government regularly fire mortars at the Green Zone, which also houses the US embassy.
