Colombo - Military planes were burning after a suspected Tamil Tiger rebel attack at an air base early today, closing Sri Lanka's only international airport next door, officials said.
"There are three military aircraft burning on the ground," said a senior air force official. "We believe about 20 LTTE [Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam] cadres infiltrated the security cordon and used rocket-propelled grenades and small arms to carry out the attack," he said.
