The Church of Ireland Bishop of Connor, Right Rev Alan Harper, has criticised recent attacks on the home of a mixed-race Muslim family in Co Armagh, reports Patsy McGarry.

Bishop Harper, who is also chairman of the Church of Ireland Sectarianism Education Project, said the apparently racist attack on the home of the family in Craigavon should be a cause of great concern to all right thinking people.

"I condemn unequivocally all such acts of hatred and violence, of which this is but the latest and among the most blatant, and I offer my sympathy and prayers for the victims." the Bishop said.

He was referring to an incident early last Saturday when up to 10 men used baseball bats and iron bars to break windows and doors at the house in the mainly loyalist Enniskeen area of Craigavon, at about 2.30 a.m. on Saturday.

The family have been targeted before. Six children were in the house at the time of the attack, including a severely disabled boy. Police have not ruled out a racist motive.
