Australia beat the West Indies by 39 runs in the second one-day cricket final to take the series 2-0 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground today.
Chasing a huge a 338 for six off 50 overs, the West Indies put up a fight before being bowled out for 299 in the final over.
Marlon Samuels made 63, Wavell Hinds 60 and Ridley Jacobs 59 but Brian Lara's miserable tour ended on a dismal note when he was dismissed for a duck by Shane Warne.
The star for Australia was Mark Waugh, who scored the highest ever one-day innings for Australia of 173 on the eve of facing ACB investigator Greg Melick tomorrow over his alleged involvement with illegal bookmakers.
Waugh's innings beat the previous best of 154 scored by Adam Gilchrist in Melbourne two years ago, although he got great support from Ricky Ponting (63) and Michael Bevan (58).
The win ensured Australia went through the domestic summer unbeaten for the first time after whitewashing the West Indies 5-0 in the test series. AFP
