All local authorities should provide caretaker facilities at public toilets, said Mr Camillus Glynn (FF). He believed that this would eliminate homosexual activities associated with such conveniences. Mr Joe O'Toole (Ind) said if action was not taken along these lines, the problem would continue.
Ms Helen Keogh (PD) said the Minister for Justice should be reminded of the urgent need for a paedophile register. Since she first raised the matter, there had been press reports of many incidents relating to child molesters. It was unfortunate that on occasions people took the law into their own hands.
Mr Joe Costello (Lab) said there was a need for a paedophile register to track offenders moving from one jurisdiction to another.
Mr Willie Farrell (FF), who lost a hand in a hunting accident 43 years ago, congratulated the Defence Minister, Mr Smith, for visiting the young Army private who suffered a similar loss in training recently. He was particularly glad that the Minister had assured her that she would not have to leave the Army.
