DUBLIN AIRPORT Authority had no difficulty in pre-letting 9,000 square metres of retail space in its new terminal, the authority said yesterday.
Letting arrangements which require a lease holder to pay a fixed rent plus a percentage of turnover were conducted by tender and all outlets at the terminal, known as T2, have been fully let.
However, just one short haul airline will be in place when T2 opens in mid-November.
Aer Lingus will be joined by long-haul flyers Etihad, and all United States traffic. T2 has capacity for up to 15 million passengers compared with about 21 million in the current buildings.
A spokesman for the airport said it expected its long-haul business to grow substantially through the deployment of T2, and talks were already underway with Air India on a move by that airline to relocate its European hub to Dublin.
The authority said talks were also underway with other, unspecified airlines.
About 2,000 volunteers took part in a day-long simulation on Saturday to test services at the new €600 million terminal.
