Liam O Muirthile has won an award for his Irish-language column An Peann Coitianta, which is published in The Irish Times. The award, one of the Oireachtas Na Gaeilge Media Awards, was presented by the President, Mrs McAleese, in Dublin at the weekend.

The citation said Mr O Muirthile's award was due to his original style and approach to contemporary affairs. Mr O Muirthile was one of four journalists who received awards. The others were:

Micheal O Muircheartaigh of RTE Sport for his "exceptional communicative abilities" in sports journalism through the medium of Irish.

Sean O Tuairisg of TnaG and RTE for his innovative and indepth analytical approach to current affairs journalism in such programmes as Cursai and Cead Cainte.
