Most of Azerbaijan was left without electricity today following a fire which destroyed several key power generators, the local energy company said.
"Most of the country has been left without electricity," a spokesman for Azerenergy said. "We have started repair work, but most of the country remains cut off."
Officials said one person died in the former Soviet republic's capital Baku following an explosion that was apparently caused by the electricity cut-off.
Baku itself remained without electricity for one hour last night.
