The Irish all-female pop act B*witched entered the record books last night as the first group to see their first four singles go straight into the chart at No 1. Blame It On The Weatherman also brought them another first as the top 10 became a family affair.

Sisters Keavy and Edele Lynch, better known as one half of the band, were celebrating after taking the top spot from their brother Shane and his Boyzone band mates. It was the first time a group has replaced members of their own family in the top slot.

The Spice Girls went to No 1 with their first six singles, but not all went straight into top slot.

Pundits were predicting B*witched would also fall short of the record after Boyzone's Comic Relief single, When The Going Gets Tough, appeared to be outselling the women.

There was also a pleasant surprise for the veteran singer Andy Williams, who returned to the British charts after a 24-year break. His Music To Watch Girls By, first released in 1967, took him to No 9 after its use in a car advertisement.
