A nine-month-old baby boy injured in a road crash in Cork on Tuesday has died in hospital.

A nine-month-old baby boy injured in a road crash in Cork on Tuesday has died in hospital.

The boy was among six people, including four children, who were rushed to hospital after a two-car collision at Lissarda, near Macroom, shortly after 3.30pm.

He was named this afternoon as Harvey Desmond, from Masseytown, Macroom.

He was the most severely injured, and medics had to resuscitate him at the scene. Five of the injured were brought to Cork University Hospital, and one person was taken to the Mercy Hospital in Cork city.

The injured, including the baby's mother, are said to be in comfortable condition following the crash.

Harvey is the youngest to die on the State's roads this year. So far, 199 have lost their lives in crashes, compared to 172 at the same point last year.
