Seven men were granted consent to bail at Galway District Court yesterday on charges arising out of a feud between traveller families.
The charges arose out of two incidents between two families, the Barretts and the McDonaghs, on the weekend before last. The men had been remanded in custody from a special sitting of the court last Sunday week on charges of violent disorder and assault.
Before the court were Mr Michael McDonagh (28), of Clybaun Road; Mr Bernard McDonagh (30), of Tuam Road; Mr Patrick (Smurf) McDonagh (25), of Hillside Park; Mr Edward McDonagh (31), of Tuam Road; Mr Patrick McDonagh (30), of Rahoon; Mr John Corcoran (23), of Rahoon Park; and Mr Patrick Corcoran (34), of Renmore.
Mr Patrick Corcoran, who was the only defendant granted consent to bail at last week's sitting, was further remanded to Galway District Court on October 19th by Judge John Garavan and ordered not to interfere with the witnesses involved in the case.
The other defendants were remanded in custody to Galway District Court on October 19th with consent to bail on their own sureties of £1,000 and an independent solvent surety of £1,000, except for Mr Patrick McDonagh from Renmore, whose bail was set at £500 and £500.
Each of the defendants was ordered not to interfere with witnesses and to report every Wednesday and Saturday to Mill Street Garda station. Both Mr Edward McDonagh and Mr Michael McDonagh were ordered to report daily to Mill Street Garda station.
