After the overwhelming success of the last visit of the Vic-Wells Company to Dublin a short while ago, when they played to packed houses in the Gaiety Theatre, I expected to see some attempt to give the public of Dublin at least some kind of ballet.
A short while ago an experiment was tried in Dublin. An attempt was made to put on a purely Irish ballet, with Irish themes and Irish dancing. This was a very courageous attempt which I should like to have seen followed up.
Now, I an told, a society has been started, under the name of the Irish Ballet Production Society, and the director is Miss Cepta Cullen. It has been formed, first, to get together all those dancers in Dublin who would take part in ballet, and thus obtain the material for a ballet production; and, secondly, to get together those who are interested in ballet. In other words, it is hoped to form a club where dancers and all interested in ballet can gather and discuss topics of mutual interest.
At the moment there is an informal meeting every Tuesday evening in the Peacock Theatre, to which all who are interested are invited.
A social evening has been arranged for early in March, at which there will be a short talk on ballet, a brief demonstration of dancing in the Peacock Theatre, and refreshments. Later, about April, it is hoped to do "Les Sylphides" and "Rhapsody."
This Society, though only in its infancy, has a number of experienced dancers. The Irish Times,
