What on earth will Ballykissangel - the village or the series - do without the unspoken frisson between Assumpta and Father Peter? Not only is the local curate going to pour his heart out to the feisty publican tomorrow night, but the aftermath will be electrifying (and we're not just talking about The Kiss). The actors playing publican Assumpta Fitzgerald and curate Father Peter Clifford - Dervla Kirwan (left) and Stephen Tompkinson - are leaving the series, and they are going out with a bang.
The poignant death of a central character is always a tearjerker, so much so that the Ballykay bosses have decided that folk shouldn't have to wait a whole week to find out what happens after tomorrow night, and are showing the last episode on Monday night, bringing the current series full circuit.
But Ballykissangel will live to fight another day - a new series is being filmed right now, presumably without ghost scenes.
Ballykissangel, BBC 1, tomorrow at 8 p.m.; Monday at 9 p.m.
