The Bank of Ireland is to install 500 cash machines in shops and other non-bank locations as part of a €15 million investment.
The bank has completed a deal with ATM operator Hanco to install the machines.
Investment in its ATM operations has already led to upgrading of ATM hardware in Bank of Ireland branches, new ATMs in the branch network, and the rebranding of all Bank of Ireland ATMs as "365 Cash".
"There is increasing demand for access to cash in locations that match consumers’ lifestyle needs," said Mr Patrick Waldron, director direct channels, Bank of Ireland.
"We are regularly canvassed to install ATMs in a variety of locations but until now, didn’t have an economically viable basis for doing so.
"The Hanco machines have a lower-cost infrastructure and can be installed in low volume sites that, in the past, could not have justified a traditional ATM".
