A bank porter charged with raping his manager's daughter some 20 years ago told the jury at the Central Criminal Court her claims were "a pack of lies". Cross-examined by Mr Brendan Nix, prosecuting, he agreed that many of the details given by the now 29-year-old alleged victim about the bank and the family home were correct but he could not explain why she claimed he sexually abused her.
He denied her claim that he abused her daily in 1980 and claimed he could prove he was out of the country for some weeks that year.
The 54-year-old man denies six charges of raping the woman, 12 of having unlawful carnal knowledge of her and one charge of indecently assaulting her on dates from 1979 to 1982.
The closing stages of the trial have been reached and the jury will retire to consider its verdict when Mr Justice O'Sullivan, concludes his charge to it.
