The Bar Council is seeking a new director to replace Mr John Dowling (53) who is leaving after more than 10 years in the post to become a consultant. The Bar Council is the trade union and professional regulatory body for its 1,100 members who are practising barristers. The director is answerable to the organisation's 21-member council which is elected annually. The Attorney General is automatically elected to the council every year.
The advertisement says candidates for the post will probably have an academic or professional qualification and will need to have a "unique blend of representational and managerial skills".
