US: Journlist Martin Bashir lavishes praise on Michael Jackson and the "spiritual" quality of his Neverland ranch in a documentary shown on US television.

The reporter is shown showering compliments on the star for his generosity and loving relationship with his children in footage aired last night.

Jackson (44) sold footage of the pair talking, shot by his own camera, for $1.6 million to the US Fox network after claiming the Granada programme, Living With Michael Jackson, "utterly betrayed" him.

The documentary also contained interviews with supporters of the singer in a show entitled, The Michael Jackson Interview: The Footage You Were Never Meant to See.

Bashir, who said in his documentary that Neverland was a "dangerous place" for vulnerable children, is shown describing the ranch as "incredible". "The problem is nobody actually comes here," he tells Jackson before one of his interview sessions.

"But I was actually here yesterday and I saw it and it's nothing short of a spiritual kind of thing." He also tells Jackson: "Your relationship with your children is spectacular. It almost makes me weep when I see you with them because your interaction with them is so natural, so loving, so caring."

Jackson is shown confirming to Bashir that he slept with his former wife Debbie Rowe, and their four-year-old daughter Paris was conceived in the French capital.

Ms Rowe appeared on the show to explain that it was she who made their children wear face masks in public. "That was my request, not his. I'm the one who is terrified."

She wept as she told how happy Jackson was when their first baby was born and said if he asked her to have more children she would do it in a "heartbeat".

The documentary also showed Jackson telling Bashir how he thought the Berlin zoo where he took his children amid a media scrum was due to be closed for his visit.

In the commentary on his programme Bashir had criticised Jackson for putting his children in danger on the trip.
