London - Mr Greg Dyke was appointed Director General of the BBC last night - sparking off a political row.
The Tory leader, Mr William Hague, told of the appointment by the chairman of the BBC governors, Sir Christopher Bland, immediately expressed "concerns" about the move.
Mr Hague requested a meeting with Mr Dyke as soon as he takes up the appointment. Controversy has surrounded Mr Dyke's candidature because of gifts said to total £50,000 to the Labour Party before the general election.
