Belfast's St Anne's Cathedral is finally to be completed a year after it celebrated its centenary - and at the same time give the city an impressive new landmark, it was announced today.
A dramatic and contemporary 40 metre steel and titanium “Spire of Hope” is to be built on the cathedral.
The Dean of Belfast, the Very Rev Houston McKelvey announced the Cathedral Board's decision to finally complete the building at the preview of an exhibition “Hope in the City” which St Anne's is hosting.
Details of a £60 million urban regeneration scheme for the Cathedral quarter were also unveiled.
The regeneration behind the Cathedral will include a 155 bedroom hotel, 132 apartments, office and retail units, cafe and restaurant units, piazza public space, landscaping and multi-story car park.
