Detectives today appealed for information about two men who threatened a motorist with iron bars and hijacked his car in south Belfast.

The motorist was driving on Balmoral Avenue at 12.20am when he heard a bang. He stopped close to King's Hall and noticed that another car had pulled up behind him with a number of people in it.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said that two men, aged between 21 and 23, then got out and threatened him with iron bars. "They chased him away from his metallic green Seat Ibiza car and drove it away from the scene," said a spokeswoman.

One of the men was described as six feet tall, of medium build and wearing dark clothing and a dark baseball cap. The other man was described as having a shaven head and a white top.
