Spanish police have arrested a suspected member of the IRA who is wanted in connection with bomb attacks that killed a British soldier and injured several others.
A spokesman said the man, identified as Mr Michael Gerard Rogan (44) from Easton Avenue, Belfast, was held on terrorism charges on Monday night on the Canary island of Tenerife.
Mr Michael Rogan: warrant issued in 1997
Mr Rogan is wanted in connection with the October 7th, 1996 double car-bombing at Thiepval Barracks in Lisburn, Co Down.
Warrant Officer James Bradwell died four days later from wounds sustained in the attack. Thirty others were injured in the bombing.
Police said Mr Rogan would be taken to the National Court in Madrid for his likely extradition to Britain.
In November 1997, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Mr Rogan. He was due to appear in Belfast's Magistrates Court after being freed on High Court bail in October 1997. However, he failed to appear and the magistrate issued a warrant for his arrest.
