The funeral of the Belfast man who died in the stolen car which killed Justin and Charmaine Watson last weekend has taken place in west Belfast.
More than 200 mourners gathered at Oliver Plunkett parish church yesterday for a funeral Mass for Mr Brian Donnelly, which was celebrated by Father Brendan McMullan.
The 20-year-old was a passenger in a stolen car which collided with the Watson family's car on the Ballymoney to Portrush road, leaving the couple dead and their son Tyler (3) seriously injured.
Two other occupants of the stolen car have been charged in connection with the incident.
Father McMullan told the congregation that Brian Donnelly's parents had done everything they could to stop their son's antisocial behaviour. He appealed to young people in the area involved in "joyriding" to end their activities.
"If you really call yourselves friends of Brian Donnelly, then for his sake or for your sake, and indeed for God's sake, do your little bit to make sure that none of us ever has to gather again for an occasion like this one."
A British army helicopter hovered near the church as the coffin was removed for cremation at Roselawn Cemetery.
A Belfast man appeared yesterday before a special magistrate's hearing in a hospital ward to face three manslaughter charges in connection with the crash. Mr Desmond Patrick Savage (23), of Altan Avenue, Woodburn, Belfast, was accused of being responsible for the deaths of Justin and Charmaine Watson. He was remanded in custody to Coleraine Magistrates' Court next Tuesday.
