RUC officers seeking the murderer of former senior UDA figure Mr George "Geordie" Legge have examined debris from a fire at a pub.
They were called to the Bunch of Grapes pub in east Belfast hours after Mr Legge's body was discovered dumped at Clontonacally Road in Carryduff on the outskirts of south Belfast.
Forensic officers carried out a painstaking inspection in the aftermath of the blaze which damaged the rear of the Beersbridge Road bar. They have not ruled out the possibility it was started deliberately.
An RUC spokesman said Mr Legge left his Island Street home at 9.30 p.m. on Friday and was seen 15 minutes later in Chamberlain Street heading towards the Bunch of Grapes.
Damage was confined to the rear of the pub. A full forensic report is being prepared for officers investigating the murder of the feared UDA figure.
Loyalist sources believe elements inside the UDA murdered him.
Mr Legge, until recently one of the most ruthless men in the organisation in east Belfast, had recently fallen out of favour.
One source said: "There is loads of speculation about why he was killed. Nobody knows what's going on but Geordie wouldn't have been the most popular person in certain circles."
Although a motive for the murder was not immediately apparent sources claimed it was linked to drugs.
